MOLESEY REGATTA SAFETY INFORMATION PLAN
TO
ALL CLUB CAPTAINS, TEACHERS I/C ROWING COACHES AND OFFICIALS, PLEASE READ
CAREFULLY AND INSTRUCT YOUR CREWS ACCORDINGLY.
This Safety Plan sets out
the procedures to be followed by competitors and officials in the case of
accident and emergency. It also provides information on sources of assistance.
Molesey Regatta, and all competitors, are required to follow the principles set
out in the ARA Code of Practice for Water Safety, and should
also be aware that we have a duty of care to other river users.
Procedures in case of accident
or emergency
Accident or emergency on the
water
In the event of an incident (accident or emergency on the water), a safety
boat should be called and its crew will assess what further action is needed.
If a safety boat is not immediately available, the nearest umpire should direct
safety operations until he/she is satisfied that the safety boat has the matter
in hand. The person in charge of the safety boat (or the umpire if a safety
boat has not yet arrived) is the incident controller.
The incident controller is responsible for obtaining assistance
(sources of assistance are shown below). The incident controller may require
racing to be suspended whilst the incident is in progress.
Umpires and safety boats are on the Regatta radio network and may be
contacted through the radios at the start or finish.
People involved with an incident must bear in mind the location to
which the injured are put ashore so that an ambulance can get to them. Ideally,
the boating raft at the finish is the best location to put injured ashore as the
first aid post is based next to the enclosure and an ambulance can be called if
needed. Details are shown on the Regatta map. The location of the boating raft
is 51° 24’
38.5” N 0° 21’ 59” W
